Convert images to WebP, PNG or JPG — right here in your browser

Drop in PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP or SVG. The conversion runs on your own device: nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and there is no watermark or file limit.

Load this page, turn off your Wi-Fi, then convert something. It still works — which is the only proof of a privacy claim worth having.

Output

Start from

Lower means a smaller file. Around 80% is usually indistinguishable from the original.

Nothing leaves your device

There is no server to upload to. The page is a folder of static files; the conversion happens in the tab using your own processor. Convert something with your Wi-Fi switched off and you can see this for yourself.

Converting also removes embedded metadata, which on a phone photo normally includes the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, the device model and the timestamp.

How it works

  1. Add your images

Drop them on the page or browse for them. The format is read from the file's own bytes, so a JPEG someone renamed to .png is still handled correctly.

  2. Pick an output

Choose a format and quality, or start from a preset. Resizing and colour reduction are optional and the effect on size is shown as soon as it is done.

  3. Download

One file, or the whole batch as a ZIP. Your settings are remembered on this device for next time.

What makes this different

A better PNG encoder

Browsers always write PNG as 8-bit truecolour. For logos, screenshots, charts and line art that is wasteful: those images have few enough colours to be stored as a palette, often at 1, 2 or 4 bits per pixel. This tool picks the smallest lossless encoding the image allows, which is frequently a fraction of the size — with identical pixels.

Photos come out upright

A phone photo is stored the way the sensor read it, with a separate tag saying how to rotate it. Browsers disagree about whether canvas drawing honours that tag, which is why converted photos so often come out sideways. The tag is read and applied here explicitly, so the result is the same in every browser.

It tells you when it cannot help

If the output would be larger than the input, it says so and suggests keeping the original. If colour reduction is the wrong tool for an image, it declines rather than posterising a photograph.

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. There is no backend — this site is static files on a CDN, and the conversion runs in your browser. You can confirm it by going offline and converting a file, or by watching your browser's network panel while you do.

Which should I choose: WebP, JPG or PNG?

WebP for almost everything on a website — it is smaller than both at the same visual quality and every current browser supports it. JPG when something old or inflexible has to read the file. PNG when you need transparency or exact pixels, such as logos, screenshots and diagrams.

Why is my converted file bigger than the original?

Usually because the original was already compressed well and you asked for a format that suits it less — a photograph saved as PNG, for instance, or a high quality setting on an already-small JPG. The tool says so when it happens rather than hiding it, and keeping the original is then the right answer.

Does this remove the location from my photos?

Yes. Converting rewrites the image from its pixels, so EXIF data — GPS coordinates, camera model, timestamp — is not carried over. Any file that contains a location is flagged before you convert it, so you know what you were about to share.

Is there a file size or batch limit?

No artificial one. Files up to 80 MB and 50 megapixels are accepted, which is a memory limit rather than a business one — beyond that a browser tab tends to run out of memory part-way through, and being told no is better than losing the work. There is no queue, no daily cap and no watermark.

Can it convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

If your browser can decode HEIC, yes — Safari can, and Chrome and Firefox generally cannot. Where the browser cannot read the format, the file is rejected up front with an explanation rather than producing something broken.
